Mario Kart geo-race

You know how I like geocaching? Well, I don't just like to hunt them, I like to place them, too! During random bits of spare time this summer I've been working on a seven-part series based on Mario Kart. I call it the GeoStar Cup. Just before leaving for Indiana on Monday, I shoved the last cache, a big ol' black dry box, behind some trees in the middle of the woods a short ways off of a boardwalk trail. I submitted them all for review the next evening and they went live just this morning. It's been a hoot seeing the avid cachers in the area leaving comments! The whole series popped up just before work and, in one case, a doctor's appointment so everyone scrambled to race each other to be the FTF (First To Find). Apparently a few of them kept bumping in to each other at the different locations!

I placed the caches in locations that Mario Kart fans might enjoy. For example, the aforementioned cache is Banshee Boardwalk and you have to walk along a boardwalk to get to it. Sometimes it had to do with the name of the road: Wario's Gold Mine is hidden somewhere on Miners Rd. But not only are the locations themed, so are the cache containers! I had lots of fun with this! I found candy at various stores in Mario containers. Most of the candy sucked (except for the "gold coins" - they tasted like smarties) so I just dumped it but the containers were cool. There's a red mushroom tin, a green mushroom tin, a question box tin, a Nintendo controller, a Wii controller, and a monkey barrel (for Donkey Kong). I also have a bunch of "trackables" (items with serial numbers you log online and see where they travel) with a mission to race to a cache in California next to a real race track and back to the cache in our back yard. I can't wait to see those go, too!

Just for fun, here's a copy of the Banshee Boardwalk page:

Welcome to Mario Kart! Select your player! Here we go!!!

You are about to enter the Finish Line in the GeoStar Cup: Banshee Boardwalk! This course consists of seven tracks instead of the standard four. Think of the extra three as bonus rounds to rack up more points!

Watch out for turtle shells (obstacles), lightning bolts (bad weather), bananas (roadkill), upside-down question boxes (potholes) and ink-splattering squids (umm…bug splats on the windshield?). May your journey be full of mushrooms, stars, and fortuitous question boxes.

Cachers, get your GPS’s ready!

Red…
Yellow…
GREEN!

LOCATION INFORMATION: Black dry box off the boardwalk.
