Zooming Out - Space is BIG

I am amazed by how big, I mean how super-freaking-mind-boggling-ENORMOUS the universe is. Check it out -

Here's a picture I took a while ago of the sun setting:

That's our sun. We see it pretty much every day. How often do we think about the fact that it's a star? This is OUR star.

There we are, rotating around our star. It's the center of our solar system. Without it, we wouldn't survive.

Here's our galaxy - the Milky Way Galaxy. Every tiny little dot in the galaxy picture is a star - a SUN. A sun with planets orbiting it, planets with moons orbiting them. Our own is so small and insignificant. Yet, it's extraordinarily significant to us! Can you believe how many suns are there? Four hundred BILLION suns! 400,000,000,000 SUNS! And our own is kind of small!

And then, just when I've almost maybe sort of wrapped my mind around all that, the Hubble Telescope goes and takes this picture:

A Zoo of Galaxies

Source: Hubblesite.org

These are all galaxies. GALAXIES!!! ALL of those spots are freaking GALAXIES! With BILLIONS of suns in them! And planets orbiting all those suns and moons orbiting all those planets.

And that picture is only one small frame taken in one direction in space!
Oh my goodness.
It's HUGE!!!!
