"Filling the Void" aka Staffing Change

While I was in the shower this morning work called to see if I could come in early. Usually, I work in the afternoon as it's a temp job...or, rather, I'm a temp working there...yeah, whatever.

So I went in early, sat at my desk, logged on my computer, clocked in and was in the midst of pulling up all the programs I usually have running and just settling in general when the HR manager came and stood in front of my desk.

He stared at me.
I stared at him.
He stared some more.
"Yeeees?" I asked, brows raised.
"We had to let S go."

(S is was the other part-time person. She was the morning secretary and helped in Accounts Payable. I'm the afternoon secretary and help in Purchasing.)

According to the office gossip-mill, S consistently came in late, called in sick a LOT (this, I noticed in particular since they'd call me and ask if I could come in early), did a little too much chit-chatting while people were trying to work, etc. Since the whole office has a meeting every morning at 8:30 (thank GOODNESS I don't have to go - major blah!) she needs to be there to cover the phones, but every time she comes in late someone has to miss the meeting so they can cover the phones. The president of the company began to notice and when S came in late this morning...she was escorted out. shocked

So I have been asked to "fill the void" and have been offered a full time position doing what I've been doing and what S was supposed to be doing. As of tomorrow I'm full time.

Cool.

Now I can start thinking about a car.

AWESOME.

It's not anything to do with my degree, but it's a starting place.

Now I have to get used to getting up earlier than I have been for quite some time. Oy vey.
